Starbucks At The Barnes And Powers Location - 1506 Words

I decided to go to Starbucks to observe how people interacted in and with the setting of a coffee shop. It was 8am at the Barnes and Powers location. I relied heavily on visual cues and nonverbal communication as the environmental sounds muted what little conversation was happening around me as it was moderately busy with about half the seats occupied. This particular location is one of the newer locations, so it has a more modern design and layout than many of the other Starbucks in town. Upon entrance, the flow of the room automatically directs customers to the line by placing the self-serve bar on the right, a coffee and mug display directly in the front, and the larger shelves of merchandise to the left. Behind the coffee and mug display is the refrigerated food case and the cash registers. Finally, bar-like seating divides the line from the seating area. The menu, behind the cash registers, is already welcoming the upcoming winter holidays with a full panel highlighting their se asonal drinks. After basking in the joy of the upcoming season or having a moment of panic that it’s already November, the pick-up bar is proudly displaying the standard Starbucks espresso machines. While most patrons note this as consistent branding, a message declaring the standard of espresso to be expected, those more seasoned in the art of espresso might see a different message depending on their experience and preference.
